Rural houses often experience wall cracking due to factors such as building materials, foundation conditions, construction techniques, and natural environment. These cracks not only affect the aesthetics of the house, but may also pose a potential threat to structural safety.
1. Repair of surface cracks

Material preparation: cement mortar, polymer repair mortar, putty, waterproof coating, fiberglass mesh cloth.

Steps:

Cleaning cracks: Use a wire brush or shovel to clean the dust and loose objects inside the cracks, ensuring that the crack surface is clean.

• Joint filling treatment: For small cracks, putty or polymer repair mortar can be used to fill them flat; For wider cracks, fill them with cement mortar first and then smooth them out.

Reinforcement treatment: Apply fiberglass mesh cloth on the surface of the crack to enhance its crack resistance.

Surface treatment: Apply waterproof coating or repaint the wall to restore its appearance.

Attention: When repairing, ensure that the material is compatible with the original wall to avoid secondary cracking caused by different expansion coefficients of the material.

2. Repair of penetrating cracks

Material preparation: high-strength cement, steel bars, epoxy resin, grouting materials.

Steps:

• Evaluate cracks: Please have professionals assess the severity of the cracks and determine whether reinforcement of the foundation is necessary.

Cleaning cracks: Use a high-pressure water gun or wire brush to clean the inside of the cracks, ensuring that there are no debris.

Grouting treatment: For wider through cracks, epoxy resin or specialized grouting materials can be used to fill and ensure complete closure of the cracks.

Structural reinforcement: Implant steel bars near cracks or use carbon fiber cloth to reinforce walls and enhance structural stability.

Surface repair: Smooth the crack surface with cement mortar, and then carry out waterproof and decorative treatment.

Attention: Professional construction is required for repairing through cracks. It is recommended to contact a qualified construction company.

3. Cracks caused by foundation settlement

Remedial measures:

Foundation reinforcement: Using methods such as pile pressing, grouting, or expanding the foundation to enhance the bearing capacity of the foundation. Grouting method is commonly used in rural areas, which can improve soil stability by injecting cement slurry or chemical grout into the foundation.

Wall reinforcement: Install steel plates or carbon fiber cloth at the cracks to increase the tensile strength of the wall.

Monitoring settlement: After repair, it is necessary to regularly monitor the settlement of the house to prevent the recurrence of cracks.

Attention: Foundation reinforcement should be designed according to geological conditions, and it is recommended to hire professional engineers for guidance.

4. Treatment of temperature cracks

Method: Install expansion joints in the wall to release temperature stress. For existing cracks, elastic sealing materials (such as polyurethane sealant) can be used to fill them to prevent further expansion of the cracks.
